
What are Cataracts?
Cataracts occur when the normally clear lens of the eye becomes cloudy. Having cataracts is like looking through a dusty or foggy car windshield. Aging is the most common cause of cataracts and usually take years to develop.
Causes of Cataracts
- Having certain medical conditions, such as diabetes
- Spending alot of time in the sun without wearing sunglasses
- Certain medications such as corticosteroids
- Especially long term use
- Family members with Cataracts
- Previous eye injuries or eye surgeries
Symptoms of Cataracts
- Sensitivity to light
- Having dim, blurred or clouded vision
- Having double vision
- Yellowing or fading of bright colors
- Frequent changes in eye glass or contact lens perscription
- Increased difficulty with vision during the evening
- Distorted vision
- Needing more light while reading
